Who am I?

Hi there, my name is SJ.

I am a university student who has always had an affinity for art and animation. I am mostly self-taught, and I had the majority of my art pieces commissioned before I went to university.

As I am sure you have ascertained: I love creatures, and I love the macabre. Allowing my imagination to run wild and come up with beings that are otherworldly but still anatomically possible gives me the most joy. I specialize in the creepy crawlies that you see in the corner of your eye, the ones that maybe were there and maybe were not, the ones that make you afraid to step into that dark corridor in your house, the ones that make you sweat to think of.

I began taking on commission work nearly eight years ago. The primary content of my work shifted a few years ago to commissions of people's guardians from Destiny 2. I have been playing Destiny 2 for almost six years, and it has been a massive inspiration for me. The pieces I have done encouraged my artistic growth beyond what I thought I was capable of, and forced me out of my comfort zone.

Since then, I have drifted into creature concepts. It has always been my passion since I was very young, but I found myself afraid of being different, of specializing in something so seemingly obscure. I have grown past this, and I am very comfortable in my skin as an artist. I could not be happier with my pursuit of everything squirmy and squishy!

My main medium is digital freehand. I enjoy pushing myself to see how well I can replicate texture without photobashing an image for the texture. My main brushes are the simple round brush and the basic airbrush. They say you do not need fancy brushes to create detailed art, and they are right! My next favorite medium is charcoal!

Art is my passion, and expressing myself through art is something I would not trade for the world.
